Facebook released a limited beta version of the new Graph Search, announced on January 15th. This will enable people to find information through the filter of their friends’ activities. Graph Search, using social graph, will allow users to search for things and discover brands and businesses from their friends’ News Feeds. The beta release is only available to those who use Facebook in US English only, and a limited group in the beginning.
How does Graph Search work?
Let’s say you’re in the mood for some delicious pizza in San Diego, you can search for “Pizzerias in San Diego my friends have been to”- and a list of locations will pop up based on your friends’ check ins, page likes or photos/statuses tagged with those locations. These locations will also be displayed on a map.
What does this mean for businesses?
The search will show friend related results at the top of the search suggestions – including people, Pages, apps, places, groups, and suggested searches. The more your page is mentioned or checked into, the more aware of your company Facebook users will become through search results. Sponsored results will show up in search as well, so creating these ads will also help your page show up for users to see.
What should you be doing to be seen?
Is your business already represented on Facebook with a Business Page? If so, you’re on the right track! If not, make one now; it’s quick, easy, and free. For those of you with Business pages, make sure that your page is complete and up-to-date.

- Do you have a vanity URL?
- Is your location correct?
- Are you engaging fans on the page to keep them interested in your page and sharing information?
