Some of our team members were able to attended BrightEdge’s Share ‘13 conference last week at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.

It was BrightEdge’s third annual industry conference, and although it was BFO’s first time attending, clearly this one was by far their grandest event to date with nearly 600 partners, clients, prospects and industry professionals in attendance.

With keynote speakers from Google, Performics, iProspect, Resolution Media and SAP (among others), this conference meant business. While the speakers were top notch, the crowd seemed just as savvy.

We were privileged to have been in the same room(s) with so many other search practitioners singing the same tune: “Content, Mobile, and Analytics! Oh My!”

One might say that sounds like what’s on the agenda at nearly every other search conference, but what stuck out the most (apart from our BFOrange Jackets) was that everyone at Share ’13 truly cared about and understood the analytics necessary for success.

The term “Big Data” was used several times (and seems to be a current buzz word in the industry), but everyone bringing it up seemed to give context to the phrase: What does “Big Data” mean for your business? If you have it, is it working for you? Are you driving performance based on the insights gathered from all that data?

Data is great. Insights are better. This was the unifying theme behind all the presentations at this event. Even if you’re doing something more fun/creative like content or social, you need insights in order to succeed; and those insights have to come from your analytics data.

Apart from the love of data and actionable insights, there were several other obvious takeaways from this event:

  • Mobile! Get on it!
  • Establish business objectives
  • Understand your target audience
  • Leverage content and engage your audience
  • Use BrightEdge! 😉

Additionally, Bright Edge held its very first training and certification seminar, where Beefers Dan Reno and John Ten Brink passed the exam and earned their Bright Edge Professional Certifications!
